Victory

Playing beautiful triangles, one-twos and through balls doesn't win you the league. (Especially if you don't put the ball in the back of the net after 50 consecutive passes)

Having 80% possession against Derby and passing them to death, then putting 15 goals past them from backheels, diving headers and bicycle kicks doesn't win you the league.

Complaining about injuries and asking for a playoff if the top two teams are separated by goal difference doesn't win you the league. For goodness sake Mr Grant, the reason why your team would still lose even on goal difference is because the champions are a better side.

Sure, all the top teams will have their memorable moments of beautiful, easy-on-the-eye football, especially when your opponents help you by playing like crap (Newcastle, Man City, Derby etc). But that alone doesn't win you the league. When the chips are down, when the team isn't playing well, when refereeing decisions are going the wrong way, but the team still manages to pull victory out of the jaws of disaster - that is what makes champions. There are times for free-flowing football, and times for grinding out a win. The best teams win all of those games, regardless of the circumstances.

Congratulations, Man Utd.

Some thoughts - would Arsenal, for all their 'potential ability' and 'emerging talent' have someone like Ryan Giggs to finish off a game like yesterday with a goal just when the team needed it?

For all their emphasis on beautiful football, it seemed Flamini, Wenger and Co didn't like it when Man Utd tore them apart with their own style of breathtaking football early this year. And even though they had like 90% possession when the teams met again in the Premiership, they still lost the game. At the end of the day, the team that scores more, wins.
