2nd MPYO Camp at INTEKMA Resort, Shah Alam
Yes I know this is a very very very late post on the MPYO camp which ended nearly two weeks ago. For all of you who have been waiting, thanks for your patience.
Since Jia Rong, Tiki, Addie, Lu Ee and goodness knows how many other MPYO members have had lots to say about the camp, I'll try to limit my word count and increase the number of pictures (which a lot of you have been clamouring for).
I arrived in KL on Friday afternoon, the day before camp. Went to ICOM to hand in my application form. Oh yes for all of you who have been asking, I will be going to KL early July to start my course at ICOM. I then took a train down to PJ to meet up with Jebat, whom I was staying with overnight. Had dinner in town that night with Jebat's family, where I found out that Jebat's dad was actually my sister's boss in The Star. Well well well. My already small world just got smaller. After that we all went to The Top Room at Top Hat restaurant which was just across the road.

David Gomes on piano

Julian Chan on sax, Vincent Ong on bass
Watched the show until about 1.30am, then headed back to Jebat's place for some shut-eye before camp. The next day, Jebat's dad treated us to a bak kut teh lunch. Both of us, due to the bad experience with the quality of food at the UTP camp, had second (third?) helpings, enough to last the whole day just in case the food was as bad.
Maybe we shouldn't have jumped to conclusions.

Makan hall

L-R Adelyn, Tiki, Kit Leong, Jebat; as usual we were the last to leave the cafe after meals.
Basically the whole week passed by in a blur, days had no meaning as each day followed almost the same routine. To avoid confusing everyone (including myself), I won't follow any sort of chronological order, rather I'll just stick my photos up and we can all admire my photography talents (or lack of it).

The banquet hall where we had our full rehearsals

Strings warming up before rehearsal

Kevin Field warming up before rehearsal
Another thing I must mention here - MPO tutors, conductor, administrators (aka Audrey and Norman) and orchestra members alike all refer to each other by our first name, even though the tutors are old enough to be our parents. It's funny at first, but after a while you get used to it. Kevin and company don't seem to mind either.
After hours activities:

UNO

More UNO; Anticlockwise from far right Lu Ee, Kit Leong, Jia Rong, Su Yin, Dylan (blurred)

Duncan, Su Yin
And of course, no MPYO music camp is complete without a chamber recital.

Chamber music rehearsals

Rehearsing my Brahms Clarinet Sonata; Jebat on piano, my tutor Philip from MPO showing me how it's done, my awe-struck expression blocked by Jebat's head
(Grabbed from galileitian.blogspot.com)
Neither is it complete without its fair share of headaches...

Audrey agonizing over reimbursement money, Kit Leong agonizing over the cut he got on his head from fooling around
Kevin brought his son on the last day of camp to watch our concert:

Warming up/practising solos and cadenzas before the concert
And finally, the only thing worth waiting for in camp... BBQ!!! But since the BBQ crew were taking forever to set up, those of us milling around in the banquet hall spent our time taking group photos...

Winds

Tribal Council
Displaying our flexibility...

Or just plain posing.

Yes, we were that bored.
On a side note, Duncanand every other guy in the room was trying to hit on Dylan's younger sister who's incredibly hot for her age (12 or 13 if I'm not mistaken), but that's another story altogether.
Finally, the BBQ was ready. Well, it was worth the wait, as you can see.

Food glorious food

One man, 100 pieces of beef... No wonder they took so long

And this was someone's second helping
To top it off, we threw Eben into the pool, just for the sake of it. You can check out the pictures at Tiki's blog. Overall this camp wasn't as eventful as the first one, save for a few minor incidences. Maybe it's because we werepampered better taken care of throughout the camp. The resort wasn't bad either, and was definitely a BIG step up from UTP.
How about making new friends? By this time almost everyone had settled into their own cliques, yours truly included, so I guess this camp was more about strengthening bonds between existing friendships. While the March camp was about meeting new people and making new friends, this camp saw us (Tribal Council gang) really get to know each better. Now I'm really looking forward to meeting up again once I move to KL!
