What Happened In Between Posts

What a hectic week. I'll start with...

1. Valentine's Day
In a nutshell, my Valentine's Day was SAD (Singles' Appreciation Day). Had dinner at Italiano's with Abner and Nat. By the way, they're both guy. Unsurprisingly we were the only non-couple patrons there. 3 guys + 0 girls + Valentine's Day = explosive mixture! How do you enjoy your Fettucine Carbonara after the white, thick, creamy sauce has been equated to a certain male secretion? It doesn't help when you start speculating about where it came from. We were joined by Joshua (By the way, he's a guy) at Coffee Bean. Guess who the local Religious Affairs Department hired as 'Mat Skodengs'? After tiring of watching dating (and doting) couples, we ended up playing mahjong at Abner's house with Mac until 12am. Couldn't help noticing I was the only pure Chinese playing. Something for the government to think about when coming up with new ideas for racial intergration.

If you haven't been grossed out yet, read on!

2. Chinese New Year
17-19 Feb
Went back to Sarikei on CNY eve. Not very eventful; just your usual eat-collect angpow-eat some more routine. The fireworks display there is comparable to Kuching, maybe even better thanks to the large Chinese population. Attended SIB Sarikei's english service on Sunday. Their congregation is about the size of our youth (during birthday bash, not bible study). Note for AGM: Even SIB Sarikei has a fully air-conned main hall! On the way back, my dad showed me an unwritten motorist's rule - whenever you see a speed trap/road block/JPJ officers, you flash your headlights at oncoming cars as a warning so that they can dump their fireworks/illegal immegrants, wear their seatbelts or go home to get their driving licence. If you are under 18, too bad.

Went visiting with the youth. This was a landmark event - a new generation of EYM drivers led the way! Their enthusiasm was not shared with the older members of the church however. After a prayer by James and a lecture on Driving Safely On The Road Lest The Parents Sue EYM by the same person, the Plague of Locusts left the church for Claire's house, followed by Uncle Richard Tan's, Isaac's, Uncle Dennis's, Aunty Ivy's, Philip's and Abner's houses. After spending the whole night playing mahjong (again), a few of us decided to sleep over. We watched the controversial, racist, vulgar, funny Borat that night, after every one else had gone back. I think our IQ dropped by 20-30 points after that. Conclusion: Don't buy iPod Minis, "Everyone know iPod Mini for girls!"

3. Post-CNY
There's this place called Kickoff at Pending, they have very good artificial turf for playing futsal. Went there yesterday afternoon with a few church friends to play against OTU - Old Timers United or less fancily, Silas and his gang. One of his gang turned out to be Ken, a former EYM president who was back on holiday from Singapore. At first youthful enthusiasm flourished and we trounced them, but as it wore out the 'veterans' struck back. Overall it was good fun, and the pitch was sublime. Will keep the place in mind.

With all this over I'll TRY to blog more frequently. To all those who read my blog, your patience is very much appreciated! Feel free to leave your comments.
